We’re at Jarry Park (1969) for the second of three games between the Yankees (2-2) and Real Baltiwashingsota (2-2). In the last game the Yankees overcame a 6-0 deficit to win 8-6.

The Big Train, Walter Johnson, is warming up in the bullpen. He’ll be the starter for Real Balt. He’s 1-0 so far this season.
Boggs doubles to lead off the first but DiMaggio and Ruth ground out on the infield and Mantle strikes out. Carew, Alomar, and Winfield will get things started for home team.
Carew singles and advances to second on a passed ball but there he stays as Alomar, Dawson, and Murray are retired in order. No score after 1.
In the top of the second, a Lou Gehrig lead off single is stranded as Jackson and Berra line out to second and Rizzuto pops out to short.
In the home half of the second, Winfield flies out to centre and then Ripken and Robinson single to get runners on the corners and Gary Carter hits a third single drive in the games first run. Real Balt strands 2 and leads 1-0 after 2.

More trouble for Yankees in the bottom of the third. Hunter managed to induce Alomar to ground out to second but then he hit Andre Dawson and walked Eddie Murray. Winfield flies out to centre again before Ripken singles through the right side to score Dawson. 2-0 after 3.

Ruth walks, Mantle flies out to Goose Goslin in left, and Gehrig grounds into a Ripken-Alomar-Carew double play.
Hunter finally gets a three up, three down inning as Carter, Goslin, and Carew all ground out. Carew has made the third out of an inning twice now.
The Big Train is struggling here in the top of the sixth. He walked Boggs to lead off the inning before DiMaggio hit a loud fly ball to right that was so deep Boggs tagged and made it to second. He’s now walked both Ruth and Mantle. The bases are loaded as Gehrig steps in.
There’s that famous Johnson fastball. Gehrig goes down swinging. But the danger has only shifted. Here comes Mr. October, Reggie Jackson. Bases loaded with two out. The Yankees down by two.
Jackson hits a hard grounder to Alomar who comes up with and tosses to Carew to get the third out. Johnson pitched himself into a jam and comes out without a scratch. Winfield, Ripken, and Brooks Robinson will bat in the bottom of the sixth.
Goose Goslin leads off the seventh for Real Baltiwashingsota with a triple into the right field corner.

Carew is forced at second on a ground ball by Alomar. Dawson flies to centre and then Murray singles moving Alomar to third before Winfield grounds to third. It’s one run on 3 hits and two left aboard. Heading to the 8th Real Balt leads 3-0.
You’ll recall in the last game between these two the Yankees mounted a late inning comeback to win.
Hoyt retires the home side in order.
Jackson doubles!

Yogi Berra singles! Runners on the corners with nobody out. The Yankees trail by one.

O holy cow! Phil Rizzuto singles and Jackson scores. The game is tied. The Yankees have runners on first a second.

Boggs singles to right and the Yankees have the lead!

Ruth hits a deep fly to right but it’s reined in by Winfield. The Yankees take the lead with two runs on four hits. Goose Gossage is going to try and close this out for the Yankees.

And just like last time Goslin raps a lead off single.
Carew is now 3 for 5 as he singles and moves Goslin over to third. Real Balt won’t go quietly.
Now Alomar singles. Goslin scores. Carew to third. We’re tied again!

Gossage is really struggling. He issues a four pitch walk to Dawson. Berra goes out to talk to the pitcher as Eddie Murray, 1 for 3 with a walk comes to the plate with the bases loaded and nobody out.
Whatever Berra said worked because Murray goes down swinging.
Incredible. Winfield grounds into a double play to end the inning. What a missed opportunity for the home squad. We’re heading to the 10th.
Robin Roberts will pitch for Real Baltiwashingsota.

Mickey Mantle hits his second home run of the game! The Yankees lead again 5-4!
Gehrig followed the Mantle bomb with a double. He advanced to third but was stranded there. We’re going to the bottom of the tenth with the Yankees leading 5-4.
Ripken grounds to third. Robinson singles and is forced at second on a Carter comebacker to the mound. Carter is on first and up comes Goslin representing both the winning run and Real Balt’s last out. He’s 2 for 2 against Gossage who’s trying for the win after blowing the save.
Goslin walks. Here comes Carew. He’s 3 for 5 with an RBI.
Carew singles! Carter scores! The game is tied! Real Balt has the winning run on third for the second inning in a row! Alomar is coming up. He tied the game last inning with a single off Gossage.
He strikes out! To the 11th.
Lazzeri grounds out and Boggs is hit by a pitch. Home Run Baker is heading out to run for Boggs.

Ruth and Mantle are retired and we head to the bottom of the 11th. Real Balt’s hole is a little deeper now. Two runs last inning would have one it for them. Now they need three. But if anybody can do it it’s the heart of their order which is due up.
Dawson with a lead off double.
Murray walks.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME! Ripken with a drive fee to left. DiMaggio going back he’s at the wall and he watches it go! A three run blast by Ripken and Real Balt comes from behind for the third straight inning and wins this one in the 11th!
Wow what a game. Real Baltiwashingsota improves to 3-2 with 8 runs on 16 hits with no errors and 13 men left on base. The Yankees fall to 2-3 with 7 runs on 12 hits and no errors. They leave 9. Robin Roberts gets the win and Herb Pennock takes the loss.
